Let's talk ceiling fans for a bit. Mine, for one, always stays on, even in the winter. I have a complex where I wake up in the middle of the night and simply cannot breathe if there's not some air circulating. Needless to say, dusting the fan is one area that I always forget to do when I'm cleaning. Now, I'm not a dirty person, just a messy, cluttered person sometimes; but I would venture to say that not a load of people dust their ceiling fans on a regular basis. That being stated in my defense, let's go back several weeks, maybe a month ago when I decided to go on a late night cleaning spree. It's around 1:00 am and I'm going strong, when it hits me: the fan! I must dust it! I get it turned off, and stopped, and it's always that sinking feeling in the pit of your stomach when you realize how much dust is caked on that thing. How is it possible? And how gross is it that all of that has been circulating around my room every moment that I'm home! I begin the painstaking task of trying to dust without the clumps falling onto my bedspread below. Then it hits me again....fans(typically) have different colors or faux wood grains on either side of the blades. Usually this is a "pecan" faux wood grain and a "cherry" faux wood grain. This is exactly my ceiling fan. I started thinking back to when I had it installed. I thought back to my Mom & Dad's house, Grandma & Grandpa's house, Aunt & Uncle's house and realized that most of the fans I could mentally recall a picture of are installed on the "pecan" finish. Why do most fan installers automatically choose the pecan side? I don't even recall being consulted on this matter when my fans were installed. I looked a little closer and realized it's only 3 little screws holding that blade to the core of the fan. Naturally, I felt rebellious, went to the kitchen, got my handy screw driver, and switched every blade. I now have a lovely ceiling fan with rich "cherry" blades. Not that I ever really see it, because the moment I get home and flip the light on, it's moving, but just the thought of those cherry blades spinning ever so fast warms my heart and makes me feel proud. Almost "handy"......almost
You are very handy! Haha! That first post was ok, but that's only because I heard it firsthand. All I have to say is, you are one rebellious homeowner.
ReplyDeleteThat wasn't a complete thought... Whatever.
